Shravana Amavasya

Amavasya Days are highly regarded in Hinduism due to their religious and spiritual nature. Shravana Amavasya, which falls in the holy month of Shravana, is the most revered of all. This festival is highly important. The no-moon day, also known as Shravana Amavasya, is considered a very favorable day for ancestor worship.

Shravana Amavasya, which falls in a specific month, is considered very important for honoring our forefathers.

On this day, the male members of the household do an ancestral worship (Pitru worship) as well as an offering to the ancestors (Pitru Tarpan).

People also pray for the blessings of their ancestors. Special meals are prepared on this day and served to the Brahmins.

Worshipping Lord Shiva.

People traditionally worship Lord Shiva on Hariyali Amavasya. Special pujas or rites are done in Shiva temples to pray for a bountiful harvest and favorable rains.

It is said that conducting Shiva puja on Shravan Amavasya brings good fortune, success, and wealth to the devotees.

Shravana Amavasya fast

Most people fast on Shravana Amavasya. They wake up early, take a holy bath, and start their fast.

Devotees worship their deities and perform rituals.

Those who fast usually eat only one meal and break their fast in the evening, believing that it brings great wealth.

Shravana Amavasya Fairs

On Shravana Amavasya, big shows happen all over the country. There is good food, getting together with other people, and fun things to do during these three-day events.

On this day, women pray for the health of their husbands.

Hariyali Amavasya is the festival of plants.

Hariyali Amavasya is the first day of the rainy season. For the holidays, people enjoy the greenery and bright colours that mark the end of the hot summer.

It takes place three days before Hariyali Teej and is the fifth month in the Hindu lunar calendar.

The entire month of Shravan is seen as a good time to worship Lord Shiva.

During this month, people worship different gods for blessings and engage in social activities, believing that they will improve their karma. They also pray plants and trees, and some people worship the peepal tree during Shravana Amavasya. Because it marks the beginning of the monsoon season, followers believe that planting on this day would result in good growth, similar to the rising moon.

Shravan Amavasya Puja Ritual

On this day, wake up before sunrise and bathe in a holy river. If you can’t do that, take a bath at home using Ganga water mixed in. This is very good to do.

After bathing:
Put on clean clothes.
Light a ghee lamp in your home’s shrine.
Offer water to the Sun God.
If you want to fast, make a promise to do so.

Next, worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati according to the rituals. Also, dress up Goddess Parvati nicely.

This day is good for honoring your ancestors, so remember to do tarpan and give donations to them.

On this special day, spend as much time as you can thinking about God and showing respect and love.

It’s also good to perform Rudrabhishek on this day. This makes Lord Shiva happy, and he gives his blessings.

Stay awake at night and read the Shiva Purana.
