Bhadrapada Purnima Vrat 2024: Puja Rituals
Bhadrapada Purnima is a day when Hindus finish their morning rituals. On this day, taking a bath in holy rivers such as Ganga, Yamuna, and Narmada is highly rewarded. Many people believe that Lord Vishnu’s blessings are received by those who perform the Bhadrapada Purnima snan.
Satyanarayan Puja is held on this day in most homes. A holy bath made of milk, sugar, and curd is given to the figure of Lord Satyanarayan. You can also use honey, butter, and honey curd. People who love Lord Satyanarayan give him flowers and sweets.
The recital of Satyanarayan Kata after the puja is extremely important. Hindus believe that reciting Satyanarayan Katha at home, or going to someone’s house upon invitation is very auspicious. Bhadrapada purnima is also the day when devotees recite stories about Lord Vishnu along with Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva.
The majority of devotees fast on this day, also known as Bhadrapada purnima vrat. The fast lasts all day, and is broken in the evening following the narration of Satyanarayan Kata. This vrat requires that the observer refrain from eating grains, pulses and salt. Milk products and fruit are allowed.
The day of Bhadrapada Purnima also makes it appropriate to perform the ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Havan. This havan is performed with the utmost devotion and on this day, a person will be freed from all negativities.
Donating clothes and food to Brahmins, or those in need is a significant part of Bhadrapada purnima. This day is a great time to do charity.

The significance of Bhadrapada Purnima Vrat 2024
There are two “Purnimas” (full-moon days) and one “Amavasya” (no-moon day) in each Hindu lunar calendar month. The full moon night has a great deal of religious significance in Hindu mythology. Bhadrapada Purnima is very important because the month of Bhadrapada is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Pitru Paksha Shraddha begins the day after Bhadrapada Purnima. According to astronomical calculations the Bhadrapada Month got its name because the eastern or northern Bhadrapad nakshatra forms in this month during the Purnima day or full moon. This day is auspicious to perform Griha Pravesh. Bhadrapada Purnima is a very important holiday for people who worship Lord Vishnu. On this day, devotees pray to Lord Satyanarayan with all their hearts to get His benefits.
Shri Satyanarayana Katha:
The Skanda Purana (Reva Kanda) contains the Shri Satyanarayana Katha. Suta Maharshi told these stories in Naimisharanya, to the Rishis performing a 1,000 year yagna led by Shounak Ji.
Characters who failed to fulfill their promise of performing the puja once their wish was fulfilled suffered the consequences. One can therefore deduce that it is important to keep the promise made to Bhagwan for his grace to fulfill the wish.
It is important to not forget or ignore the Divine Grace. Prasad represents God’s grace, which Kalavati, an important character in Satyanarayan Katha, ignored when she heard of her husband’s return.
It is understandable that she was eager to reunite with her husband, but it’s important to understand that, if you forget to thank Bhagwan for the gifts he gave, then another test will be required until you remember to do so. The rich merchant lies when asked about the contents of the boat, and replies, “Only dried leaves”. The Mendicant then says, “So be it”.
This incident shows us the power of spoken words. What you say manifests. One must therefore not tell a lie. A particularly unlucky lie. In other tales, one can learn that Shri does not place anyone higher or lower than another. One must therefore respect whoever is taking God’s name. Katha details:
Story 1:
Suta Maharshi told the stories. Narada Maharshi, while traveling the three worlds and seeing the suffering of humans on Bhoolokam Earth (as he was then called), narrated the stories. He went to Sri Satyanarayana Swami (the benevolent Vishnu form), the only one who can alleviate mankind’s suffering.
He met Bhagwan Vishu with four arms, each with Shankha (with Shankha), Chakra (with Gadha), and Padma. Tulsi mala was around his neck. Narada Maharshi asked the Lord for a panacea to the sufferings of the world. Sri Satyanarayana said to Narada Maharshi there was a puja and fast that anyone could perform in order to overcome the obstacles.
Bhagwan said: “Anyone who performs Shri Satyanarayan Swami’s Vratham & Puja the right way will receive all the pleasures of Earth & reach their goal”. The fast will bring him fulfillment and freedom from the cycle birth-death.
They will be freed from their sorrows and sufferings if they perform Shri Satyanarayana Swam’s Katha in the presence of a Brahmin, his family and all the rituals. The Brahmin and his family will receive wealth, wisdom, children and overall victory. This prayer requires ripe Bananas, Ghee, Milk & Choori (made from wheat flour, sugar, and ghee).
All present must eat the prasadam together after the prayers. They should then praise and chant the mantras of Satyanarayana Swami. Their wishes will come true if they do this. This vratham (reward) is very quick. This chapter of Satyanarayana Swam is now over. All of you chant (say) Shri Satyanarayana Ki Jai.
Story 2 :
Shri Satyanarayana told Narada Maharshi who and how the first puja was performed. A Brahmin lived in a village called Sunder Kashipur. He used to beg for his daily bread in hunger and thirst. Shri disguised himself as a Brahmin and asked the Brahmin, “Oh Brahmana why are you so unhappy?”Â
Please tell me about your problems. “Is there a way I can help you?” The Brahmin responded, “I’m a poor Brahmin and I wander daily for bread.” Are you aware of any solution to this misery? Shri, in disguise as a Brahmin, said: “Shri Satyanarayana grants the wishes of everyone if his fast and puja are performed diligently.”Â
You will be able to overcome your sadness and gain moksha if you pray him and keep his fast. Bhagwan left after telling him the exact details of his prayer and fast. He could not sleep. He was constantly thinking about the fasting and praying that the Lord had told him to do. He woke up in the morning with the idea that he had to perform puja somehow.Â
So he thought about his bhiksha. The Brahmin received a large amount of money on that day. He bought all the things he needed for the prayer. He then called his family to pray with Lord Satyanarayana. The Brahmin was able to overcome all of his troubles and become rich by doing this. He continued to pray every month. The puja of Lord Satyanarayana will relieve you from all your sorrows.
